Why French Climate Is So Appealing?

Why French Climate Is So Appealing?

I don’t know why, but all of us really like travelling to France. OK, it’s close – you just need to drive through the channel, and here we are in the country of our neighbours. Well, but this is northern France which we aren’t particularly fond of. The same landscapes, similar weather – nothing to marvel at. French climate But France has much more to offer. First of all, it has four climatic zones. There is something here for everyone. If one likes more clouds and lower temperatures in the summer season – here you go – you’ll find it in northern regions. There are also people who like the climate of good old Europe. Continental climate, with normal seasons of the year (well, OK, they’re normal for us) – head towards inland, in the direction of Paris, Nantes, Bordeaux, Massif Central, or go a little further east – towards Reims, Nancy and Dijon. Alpine climate? Why not – summers full of sun and refreshing air (though not always) can be experienced in the vicinity of Chambéry, Gap and Grenoble. Although nearby, in Lyon, summers tend to be hot and humid, like on the French Riviera. And finally there’s the […]

How To Get To Southern France By Car On Tight Budget?

To a certain extent, each trip means going into the unknown, even if you drive, or fly to a destination you know, choosing the same means of transport. Lost luggage, delayed train departure or a flat tyre. This time it was no different – there’s a whole bunch of events which kinda keep us amused on our way. But, I like the unpredictability, as it’s these unforeseen memories that we retain forever. Dover to Calais ferry crossing The first such memorable event was a surprise we had on a ferry from Dover to Calais. We were surprised at the whole lot of travelers. And it was a nice surprise. Despite the holiday rush, we traveled in the middle of the week, so the ferry took a dozen of trucks and about 15 passenger cars. The conditions were really comfortable, the weather was great (it was the hottest day in the UK in 2016) and, for the first time, there were restaurants without queues (sadly, we didn’t buy anything – the only thing Jan wanted to eat was spaghetti bolognese from the kid’s menu, which was served in a tiny bowl, half-filled with pasta – to sum up, there were four […]

Why Are We Holidaying In France This Year?

Why Are We Holidaying In France This Year?

We counted weeks, then days, and now we are counting hours… Only 48 hours are left and then once again we set off for France on a summer touring trip of southern and western regions of this country. A short visit to Poland will be an added bonus. Our summer holidays this year are divided into 3 stages: a 4-day stay in Antibes on the French Riviera, a 10-day stay at Les Grand Bornand in Haute Savoie and a 3-day stay in Poland. Our means of transport: a car – most convenient when you travel with a 7 year old. Family meeting in the Alps It all started when we planned a trip to the Alps. Actually, the trip was planned by Kasia’s family. Kasia has got four siblings, including two older sisters that are twins (one of them lives in Germany, the other one in the Netherlands), a younger sister and a younger brother (both living in London). So such family meetings in an independent territory are becoming our tradition. We didn’t want to let this tradition die, so we decided to start our holidays 4 days earlier in southern France. And on top of that, there’s also our […]
