Movies Set In Manhattan, New York

As movie-goers, we had planned our recent trip to the United States thinking about a visit to perhaps the most photogenic city in the world. New York, and especially Manhattan, was the location where many countless movies, bigger or smaller hits, were shot. Probably all of you have seen such films as “Taxi Driver” starring Robert De Niro (an important one for me, because of the date of its release), “The Godfather”, “Home Alone”, “Goodfellas”, “The Interpreter”, the whole series of “The Sopranos”, movies directed by Woody Allen or “Wall Street”. I could go on and on like that, but there are plenty of examples and not enough space in one blog post to mention them all. In New York, we stayed at the Upper West Side, near 81 West Street, close to the Natural History Museum (to pamper Jan, because of the exhibits, but also due to “The Night In The Museum”) and Central Park (this is because our passion for jogging – we couldn’t deny ourselves jogging in such a place, a true icon). The areas around the Central Park, especially on its eastern side, look as if you were in a Woody Allen’s movie – the place […]

Why French Climate Is So Appealing?

I don’t know why, but all of us really like travelling to France. OK, it’s close – you just need to drive through the channel, and here we are in the country of our neighbours. Well, but this is northern France which we aren’t particularly fond of. The same landscapes, similar weather – nothing to marvel at. French climate But France has much more to offer. First of all, it has four climatic zones. There is something here for everyone. If one likes more clouds and lower temperatures in the summer season – here you go – you’ll find it in northern regions. There are also people who like the climate of good old Europe. Continental climate, with normal seasons of the year (well, OK, they’re normal for us) – head towards inland, in the direction of Paris, Nantes, Bordeaux, Massif Central, or go a little further east – towards Reims, Nancy and Dijon. Alpine climate? Why not – summers full of sun and refreshing air (though not always) can be experienced in the vicinity of Chambéry, Gap and Grenoble. Although nearby, in Lyon, summers tend to be hot and humid, like on the French Riviera. And finally there’s the […]

Jan The Athlete – The Value Of Sport

As I’ve already mentioned in the About Us section, sport is a very important part of our lives and we want to acquaint Jan with several disciplines, let him a feel that you can have a lot of fun when playing sports and getting better and better at it. Our goal is to show him that the satisfaction from jogging, swimming or riding a given distance is a reward in itself. To prove that these are not just words, I’d like to introduce Jan The Athlete. Falling in love with skiing from the first descent Skiing was the first sport he started practicing. The first time he put on skis was when he was 2.5 yo, on the slope in Limanowa, Poland. The lesson lasted 2 hours and I really don’t know how the instructor did it, but he managed to ski down with Jan from the very top of the slope. Of course, getting down lasted about 40 minutes and Jan was really tired when they reached the feet of the mountain, but that was just the first time. That winter he skied two or three times with instructors, on beginner’s slopes. At this point I need to say […]

Tasty Red Thai Curry Prawns Appetizer – Recipe

We’ve started to be committed fans of Thai red curry paste two or three years ago. This spice offers a great balance of sweet Thai flavours including aromatic lemongrass and spicy red chillies. It goes well with chicken, beef or sea food. It is tastes superb if used with vegetables. And on most occasions the best results are reached if it is mixed with coconut milk. This recipe (for 2 people) is about speed and simplicity – two main features of the modern cuisine. We call it red Thai curry prawns. It can act as a snack or appetizer (starter). It shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes to prepare that dish (including preparation). Red Thai curry prawns ingredients 2 spoons of red Thai curry paste 1/2 small onion (white or red) 2 garlic cloves 2 squeezes of lemon Ca. 300g of fantail prawns (cooked, part shelled and tail on) 2 teaspoons of olive oil Method Heat up the oil Add prawns, onion and garlic and fry for around 2 minutes Add Thai red curry paste and fry for another 2-3 minutes Place everything on the plate and sprinkle with lemon juice.     Voila! Time’s off. Dish is ready

Kale, Banana and Kiwi Green Healthy Smoothie – Recipe

This kale smoothie is one of our favourite and a great way to have a healthy snack (meal). We drink it 1-2 times a week and we treat it as a last snack before we go to sleep (we don’t drink it however later than 2 hours before going to bed – in our case last healthy snack time is ca. 9pm). Kale contains powerful antioxidants (helps protect against certain types of cancers), fibre, calcium, vitamin K, C and beta carotene. It is also a source of sulfarophane that has anti diabetic properties. Kale has a little bit stronger flavor than spinach, so if you prefer sweeter flavours and you are really not in to veggie aroma in smoothies we have great news – our smoothie contains banana – it helps to mask unwanted flavours and you will barely taste the kale. You might also want to use other strongly flavoured fruits such pineapple or strawberries. Smoothie ingredients 3x kiwi 1x Banana 1 spoon of honey (we use organic, made in Poland) 1/2 spoon of grape oil 2 fistful of kale 1 slice of lemon Method Peel the fruits Wash the kale Place everything in the mixing dish, add honey, […]

How To Get To Southern France By Car On Tight Budget?

To a certain extent, each trip means going into the unknown, even if you drive, or fly to a destination you know, choosing the same means of transport. Lost luggage, delayed train departure or a flat tyre. This time it was no different – there’s a whole bunch of events which kinda keep us amused on our way. But, I like the unpredictability, as it’s these unforeseen memories that we retain forever. Dover to Calais ferry crossing The first such memorable event was a surprise we had on a ferry from Dover to Calais. We were surprised at the whole lot of travelers. And it was a nice surprise. Despite the holiday rush, we traveled in the middle of the week, so the ferry took a dozen of trucks and about 15 passenger cars. The conditions were really comfortable, the weather was great (it was the hottest day in the UK in 2016) and, for the first time, there were restaurants without queues (sadly, we didn’t buy anything – the only thing Jan wanted to eat was spaghetti bolognese from the kid’s menu, which was served in a tiny bowl, half-filled with pasta – to sum up, there were four […]

Why Are We Holidaying In France This Year?

We counted weeks, then days, and now we are counting hours… Only 48 hours are left and then once again we set off for France on a summer touring trip of southern and western regions of this country. A short visit to Poland will be an added bonus. Our summer holidays this year are divided into 3 stages: a 4-day stay in Antibes on the French Riviera, a 10-day stay at Les Grand Bornand in Haute Savoie and a 3-day stay in Poland. Our means of transport: a car – most convenient when you travel with a 7 year old. Family meeting in the Alps It all started when we planned a trip to the Alps. Actually, the trip was planned by Kasia’s family. Kasia has got four siblings, including two older sisters that are twins (one of them lives in Germany, the other one in the Netherlands), a younger sister and a younger brother (both living in London). So such family meetings in an independent territory are becoming our tradition. We didn’t want to let this tradition die, so we decided to start our holidays 4 days earlier in southern France. And on top of that, there’s also our […]
